Bob Saget

Bob Saget may never play to a full house in Rose Arena.
According to Robert Ebner, director of university events, the comedian most famous for his role as Danny Tanner in ABC's "Full House" will no longer perform at Central Michigan University in April.
Saget's agent, Heidi Feigin, sent an e-mail announcing the cancellation of Saget's scheduled April 25 show yesterday afternoon to both Ebner and Damon Brown, Coordinator of Student Activities.
The message states Saget will be going back to working on his new sitcom for ABC, entitled "Surviving Surburbia," during the scheduled time block of CMU's show.
"Due to the ever changing nature of his shooting schedule, we have decided it is best just to cancel and let you guys move on to find a replacement for your spring show," Feigin said in the e-mail.
Program Board was prepared to pay Saget $40,000 for his performance.
The show was originally scheduled for April 18, but Brown said Saget moved the show to April 25 for similar scheduling conflicts. The performance was planned to last a minimum of 50 minutes and would have involved Saget playing a guitar.
"Surviving Suburbia" is scheduled to premiere at 9:30 p.m. April 6 on ABC.
According to the contract signed by Ebner and a Saget representative, neither party will be forced to pay a fine for breaking the agreement.
Saget was given a 30-day grace period prior to the actual performance date to cancel without liability.
"Sometimes this will happen with big names," Brown said. "We don't like to see it happen, but usually with big names, if Hollywood calls, then you're stuck. It caught us off guard but his TV show has been getting rave reviews."
Though the cancellation comes as a disappointment, there still is plenty of time to find a replacement.
"We were excited about him coming but he was just too busy to reschedule. I wouldn't be surprised if the Program Board got another show around," Ebner said.
Brown said James Smith, who appeared in one episode of HBO's comedy series "Flight of the Conchords," was expected to perform as the opening act.
"We're going to hold on to James and have him open, but that's all on hold. That still could change though," Brown said. "We have six to eight different comedians listed that we are interested in. Now we just have to contact them and see what their schedule is like."
Among the "big names" on this list, which was created based on a student poll that was conducted during the fall, are Demetri Martin, an artist who currently hosts the show "Important Things with Demetri Martin" on Comedy Central and ventriloquist comedian Jeff Dunham.
Brown said meetings will begin next week regarding discussions of a replacement show.
